A cosa serve la bava di lumaca e quali sono i suoi usi e benefici in cosmetica

What is snail slime used for and what are its uses and benefits in cosmetics

Snail slime is a substance produced by the snail of the same name
mollusc always used in cosmetics and medicine for
its hydrating, regenerative, soothing, exfoliating properties,
brightening, purifying, normalizing and anti-aging.
It is ideal for all skin types as it is a natural
regulator for the production of sebum, which is the basis
acne, blackheads, dermatitis, oily or dry skin
and with an irregular surface.
How to collect snail slime

the collection of snail slime for cosmetic use takes place using special machinery, where the secretion is produced, filtered and microfiltered to eliminate any type of impurity, without diluting the secretion apart from the addition of stabilizers to ensure its conservation over time.

There snail slime has property and a qualitative-quantitative composition of active substances that make it a unique ingredient that cannot be replicated in the laboratory with a synthetic product.

It is in fact composed of active substances that are particularly useful for the health of the skin, among which we find Allantoin , which helps promote epidermal turnover by promoting hydrating, soothing and revitalizing action. The presence of Glycolic Acid promotes a gentle exfoliation of the superficial layers of the skin, with a consequent increase in the speed of cellular turnover and an increase in the activity of fibroblasts and the production of collagen and elastin already naturally present in the mucous secretion. Vitamins, minerals and lactic acid complete the rich composition of snail slime.

PROPERTIES of snail slime

Snail slime is very rich in mucopolysaccharides, which give it its characteristic viscosity and which perform a protective, film-forming and hydrating action. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have highlighted how the snail slime have property regenerative properties for human skin and significant antioxidant activity.

The antioxidant action acts on two levels, both reducing the formation of free radicals and sequestering them. This mechanism is involved in cellular protection from damage mediated by the formation of free radicals induced by UV radiation and can therefore prevent damage and skin signs caused by photo-aging, the main cause of wrinkle formation. It is therefore used in anti-aging, restorative and film-forming products, effective in fighting expression lines.

In addition to its antioxidant power, snail slime increases the survival of fibroblasts by stimulating the natural proliferative activity of cells, a necessary and essential condition for wound healing without scar formation.

In vivo studies have shown that cosmetic products based on the secretion of Helix Aspersa promotes the healing of burns in children by reducing the formation of keloids, hyperpigmentation and improving the overall aesthetic appearance of the scar. The studies were performed on both infants of a few months and on adults who therefore have different skin and cellular characteristics based on age.

Snail slime CREAM

There snail slime cream has property which make it one of the most admired products on the cosmetics market and in particular on the natural cosmetics market.

Its use dates back to ancient Greece where Hippocrates exploited the anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties of snail slime to remedy skin irritations. In the Middle Ages, however, it was one of the elements present in traditional medicine.

However, the real success of snail slime dates back to the 1980s in Chile, with the Bascunan family who raised snails for the French gastronomic market. The operators of these farms noticed that their hands maintained a healthy appearance and never showed signs of dryness or aging, they noticed that small wounds healed more quickly and without scarring or infections. After 15 years, the first patented cosmetic cream with snail slime was born.

The snail slime creams present different skin benefits :

  • They improve the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks and scars;
  • They combat the appearance of acne thanks to the presence of glycolic acid among their components, which has exfoliating and regenerating properties;
  • They have antioxidant properties that can protect the skin from the action of free radicals;
  • They have hydrating properties that allow you to restore a good level of hydration to the skin.

Uses of snail slime for facial skin, body and hair

There snail slime can have different uses for facial skin and for the body, as it contains a high content of polysaccharides and polymers that allow it to perform a highly hygroscopic activity, i.e. to retain water and decrease the TEWL of the stratum corneum, ensuring continuous hydration at the epidermal level. The mix of protein components, micronutrients and glycolic acid protects the skin from external agents, UV radiation and possible infections.

Snail slime extract is equally effective in protecting hair from mechanical damage caused by the daily pressure of styling, combing and hairstyling.

ACNE AND PIMPLES, an ally for young people

There snail slime It is also one of the most effective remedies against pimples and acne, capable of acting both on the causes and the effects, thanks to the active ingredients contained in snail slime:

– the presence of glycolic acid promotes an acceleration of the cell renewal process of the upper layers of the epidermis. In the treatment of acne it is effective on three levels: it has a sebum-regulating effect, eliminates impurities, reduces marks and scars;

– the presence of allantoin protects the skin from oxidation and stimulates the production of epithelial cells, helping to reduce scars and acne marks;

– the presence of vitamin A And vitamin E provide an antioxidant and soothing action that can reduce irritation and redness. In particular, vitamin A stimulates the expression of some specific enzymes that are able to improve the skin's cutaneous layer by promoting the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, while the role of vitamin E is attributable to its antioxidant activity, which directly counteracts the harmful action of reactive oxygen species and indirectly restores the endogenous component of other antioxidants.

Contraindications of snail slime

Snail slime has no particular contraindications. It is a safe product, not irritating or sensitizing for application on the skin under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. In any case, especially for the most sensitive skin, it is recommended to test products containing snail slime on small areas of application to highlight any adverse reactions.
