Black soap : what it is and what are the benefits for our skin
Black soap - also known as Moroccan black soap or Hammam black soap - is a particular type of soap, characterized by a pasty consistency and a typically dark color (hence the name of the product). As mentioned, black soap has its origins in the distant past, when the ancient inhabitants of the North-West African countries began to produce it to take care of their personal hygiene.
Even today, Moroccan black soap is used in Hammams as part of beauty treatments, which aim to cleanse and purify the body. The importance of this product in these places is fundamental; it is no coincidence that the treatment that is carried out in Hammams with black soap is considered a real ritual.
Properties of black soap
Black soap looks very different from the Marseille soap or bar soaps we are used to. It has a consistency more similar to that of an exfoliant. It has a dark brown color and a scent that immediately recalls olive oil.
The particular processing of black soap makes it similar to a cream and it is just like a creamy cosmetic that you will apply and massage it on the body. Black soap allows you to eliminate the surface layer of dead cells present on the skin of the body with delicacy and with beneficial effects on the brightness of the skin.
The black soap we find on the market is composed of ingredients such as olive oil, potassium hydroxide and eucalyptus essential oil. Black soap cleanses the skin thoroughly, yet delicately, and at the same time nourishes it and leaves an exotic note of perfume on it. It does not grease the skin and does not irritate it.
Uses of Black Soap
In the Hammam, black soap is part of real rituals dedicated to body care. For example, you can start with an exfoliating massage to be practiced with black soap and with the appropriate glove, followed by a Turkish bath and sometimes a new massage, with Aleppo soap.
Black soap is mainly used to promote the elimination of dead cells and to help the body free itself from toxins, with a treatment that is still pleasant and to be performed with delicate gestures. The results of using black soap are evident: softer and more radiant skin with a younger appearance.
Thanks to the use of the Moroccan exfoliating glove, known as kassa, you can get a real body scrub, even at home. All you need is the right products and a few moments of relaxation, perhaps before a bath or shower.
For normal use, simply massage the black soap all over your body and, if you want, complete the treatment with the kassa glove, and then move on to the shower. Finally, to complete everything, you could perfume your body with natural rose water or massage and nourish your skin with argan oil. Black soap-based body treatments are suitable for everyone, both men and women, and are a real panacea for the skin.
Combined with the Moroccan glove, black soap allows you to perform a deep scrub of the roughest parts of the body, with particular reference to the elbows and heels. Such a deep treatment is less suitable for the delicate skin of the face. The application of black soap is not recommended for the eye contour. To massage and exfoliate the face, you can use more delicate products with which to create masks, such as white or green clay and even ghassoul (or rhassoul), the Moroccan clay.
